Abstract An orthorhombic crystal of xylanase II from Trichoderma reesei was grown in the presence of sodium iodide. Crystal structures at atomic resolution were determined at 100 and 293 K. Protein molecules were aligned along a crystallographic twofold screw axis, forming a helically extended polymer-like chain mediated by an iodide ion.

Xylanases are hydrolytic enzymes which randomly cleave the β 1,4 backbone of the complex plant cell wall polysaccharide xylan. Diverse forms of these enzymes exist, displaying varying folds, mechanisms of action, substrate specificities, hydrolytic activities (yields, rates and products) and physicochemical characteristics. Xylanase (EC 3.2.1.8) is any of a class of enzymes that degrade the linear polysaccharide xylan into xylose, thus breaking down hemicellulose, one of the major components of plant cell walls. As such, it plays a major role in micro-organisms thriving on plant sources for the degradation of plant matter into usable nutrients. Protein structure of xylanase. Composition of xylanase Xylanolytic enzyme systems (xylanolyticenzymesystems) is a class of xylan degrading enzyme systems, including β-1,4-endoxylanase, β-xylosidase, α-L-arabinosidase, α- D-glucuronidase, acetylxylanase and phenolate esterase can degrade a large amount of xylan hemicellulose existing in nature.

Degradation of dietary fiber in the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine of growing pigs fed corn- or wheat-based diets without or with microbial xylanase.

Xylamax® is a 1, 4-beta-xylanase enzyme that has been scientifically proven to ME/kg in wheat poultry diets due to its unique protein structure and pH profile.

[ 1] Fungi and bacteria produce xylanase, and it's produced by insects, crustaceans like snails, and even seeds. [ 2] Mammals, including humans, do not produce xylanase, but some of our gut bacteria do. Recently, we determined the crystal structure of an endo-β-1,4-xylanase (GH11) from mesophilic Talaromyces cellulolyticus, named XylC. Ligand-free XylC exists to two conformations (open and closed forms).

Xylanase purified from Arthrobacter sp. MTCC 5214 was found stable in a narrow pH range of 7.0–8.0 . Due to the diversity in the chemical structures of xylans derived from the cell walls of wood, cereal or other plant materials, a large variety of xylanases with various hydrolytic activities, physicochemical properties and structures are known. Therefore, several aspects of xylan structure remain unclear. XYLANASE: XYLAN HYDROLYZING ENZYME Over 100 years ago the role of enzymes in the breakdown of xylan was observed by Hopper-Seyler (Bastawde 1992).
